Ask yourself something; is your home safe? Do you know how to prevent a break in? Sometimes, the best way to protect your home and you property is to think like a burglar. Here are some things you should know on how to prevent a break in.
Install an alarm system
You can purchase a DIY security system for as little as $25 online. The least expensive are incredibly basic but it will do the one thing you want: SOUND THE ALARM! Be sure to set your alarm system, even when you go to the store for a quick errand. Pro tip: don’t position a mirror or anything that will reflect your code to the outside.
Deadbolt your doors and lock all windows
Ideally, a steel-wrapped door with no windows within reach of the inside handle is best. Don’t forget about those sliding doors; place a wooden rod in the track frame.
Be careful of what you post on social media
If you’re one of those people who don’t have a super tight privacy setting on your social media accounts, and even if you are, be careful what you post on social media while you’re away. Burglars are not always strangers…they could be the ones you call your friend. Here’s a tip: wait till you return from your trip to post any photos or comments.
Pretend that you are home, even if you’re not
Let’s say that you have gone out of town and have decided to close up all blinds and shades. Don’t do that. Instead, pretend that you are home. Put timers on lights or use a Fake Tv.
Be smart with your landscaping
Trim the bushes and shrubs that hide windows and doors. Overgrown areas in front of entry points make it easy to cover those who are breaking in. If your green thumb is itching to do something, plant thorny, spiked, and otherwise pain-inducing landscaping near all entrances. That should keep unwanted people out!
Hide your trash
If you’ve bought something expensive that comes in a big box. Break it down and hide them in your trash or recycling bin. Burglars live for those kind of things.
Secure your valuables
Invest in a wall safe or rent a safe-deposit box at a bank for anything valuable you might leave a home. If your safe isn’t a wall safe, bolt your safe to the floor or something hard to move.
